The Line

There is a fine line between following with eagerness and with just doing what one is supposed to do. There is a key word in the question posed by Nephi as he asked Zoram "Shall we not be diligent in keeping the commandments of the Lord?" Can you see the key word in this question? The word is "diligent". The definition is working hard or eagerly doing. The sign for "eager" and "diligent" in ASL is the same sign. Briskly one rubs the palms of their hands in front of them. Their fingers pointing straight in front of the them the bottom of their hands parallel to the floor. Back to the topic. The mere use of diligent does not just mention needing to keep trying, but to want to keep doing their best to follow the Lord's commandments.
This is not easy nor has it ever been easy. The followers of Christ have often been persecuted and harmed for their beliefs. Yet, they are always blessed in greater quantity than that struggle they had go through. Amazing when one thinks about it.

"Shall we not be diligent
in keeping the commandments of the Lord?"
Even though our clothes might be rent,
Our debts to the Father we can barely afford.

Our faith is tested each and every day
Sorrow and struggle a small portion.
But even if we fall short we still can pay,
For the Lord Jesus Christ, us, He will not shun.

We can be diligent as we proclaim
Our Lord and Savior will again come!
We tell the world and share His fame,
We teach of His love and give hope to some.

Many refuse this wondrous gift,
Much to our despair.
But we know after this life is rift,
They will be able to learn it  all there.

All have the chance to learn of our Savior
We can all know His joy and hope.
Maybe we will become the teachers, due to good behavior,
Perhaps we will find rest at the end of life's rope.

Diligence is the key to understand,
Eagerly we serve and obey.
We listen to the Lord and his command
We learn and try our best everyday.
It is as the Lord has always planned,
We will find the right and only way!
